'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood' MOVIESTRIPS™ & FILM ART™ at Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood opened nationwide across America on 25th July, projecting from a 35mm and 70mm Film print at select theatres. The film starting Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and was shot on Kodak 35mm film. Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his long-time stunt double cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. Tarantino’s 9th film is full of multiple storylines and is tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.

Indie cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse were one of the main cinemas to be holding exclusive 35mm screenings, showing on Film at 19 of their cinemas nationwide. Founder and CEO Tim League, wanted to bring Film out of the projection booths and into the hands of the public. League approached UK Film laboratory CPC London to create a limited batch of commemorative 35mm Filmstrips.

Working in collaboration with Sony Pictures and Alamo Drafthouse, CPC London designed and produced 20,000 limited edition Filmstrips. The 7 frame strips contained 5 official stills from the movie, as well as official logos. The Filmstrips were distributed throughout Alamo Drafthouse’s 19 locations over box office weekend.

As well as this CPC London also provided League with an exclusive piece of Film Art™, which can be found displayed at Drafthouse’s new Los Angeles multiplex. The A1 artwork shows the ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ theatrical poster. It is composed of individual 35mm Filmstrips and illuminated in a frame.

‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ opened in the US with great success, making $41million in its opening weekend and grossing approximately $122.1million. League said:

We’re honored and thankful to be able to screen ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ on 35mm and 70mm. We remain committed to supporting Film screenings across the brand, both to celebrate the unique richness, depth and clarity of the projected film image but also to share the vast history of cinema that is only available on Film.
