    • TTF/DTF ARCHIVING

It is a clear and indisputable fact that the amount of hardcopy documents and data in the world is growing exponentially.

We have learned from our research within private enterprises, organizations as well as national and governmental archives that the amount of hardcopy documents and data that needs to be managed is increasing with typically 50% every year. This implies that every second year the amount of data is more than doubled!

As a consequence of these permanent hardcopy documents (the storing of these documents) and permanent data growth (long- term archiving) universe is expected to grow with a factor of typically 40x to 50x within 10 years!

The Cinema Printing Company London (CPC) has developed a low cost process for the market of permanent storage/long term (archival) preservation of video and digital data.

The permanent (archival) storage market is not to be confused with the general backup or recovery/restore market, which in the past was also the classical domain of (magnetic) tape systems, but has been largely replaced by more convenient disk drive systems for this purpose.

In recent years the archival storage market has become a cost prohibitive process and requires a solution that will provide long term data storage at a fraction of the cost.

      HOW IT WORKS ?

The business model is to provide a managed service by offering hardcopy documents storage and secure digital preservation/storage archiving globally by using the Cinema Printing Company London (CPC) as the key part or all of the service.

The market is global and in every little corner of the world there is a need for secure and cost efficient document storage and long term preservation of valuable data.

      TTF/DTF STANDARD

Together with CPC partners, we currently provide a reliable 35mm long-term archiving solution, and will continue with R&D projects to develop, test and deliver an even faster and more robust holistic system for long- term storage and indexing of digital data.

In this case, long-term is not the typical, say, 10-year contract you might see today that ends with a nasty migration to a new system. No, this is more like 10 lifetimes worth of security, anywhere from 500 to 1,000 years.

The CPC System includes hardware for writing and reading data on the storage medium (CPC Film), film packaging techniques (CPC Box and CPC Bin), a fully automated management tool (CPC Vault) and a web-based system for data storage and retrieval. Both the storage medium and the packaging have a documented lifetime of 500 years.

Under the current project, the plan is for CPC to further boost the security with new authentication and immunity solutions (against viruses and hacking) and tools to make the whole package even more environmentally sound.

CPC security and authenticity will become the standard. Our new features will open up completely new markets and broaden the scope for long-term storage of diverse digital objects, from ancient manuscripts and historical documents to artefacts, films and images that shaped our existence and carry our cultural DNA.

    • DIGITAL PRESERVATION MADE TANGIBLE

By combining innovative research with well-proven technology, we have developed a AIS (Archival Information System) compliant solution for hardcopy documents and digital preservation. By using our technology, companies can feel confident about the integrity of their data and trust they can be reproduced in the future. These companies will experience an incredible reduction in upfront system costs and a reduced workload, enabling them to focus on core tasks.

      CURRENT MARKET CONCERNS

Many decision-makers in business, institutions and governmental organizations are often not even aware of the risk of worst- case data disaster scenarios. The Internet is awash with reports of institutions and companies losing data. In addition, the process for hardcopy documents storage and long-term archiving of data based on systems using optical disk (DVD/Blue Ray) and magnetic hard disk drives are much too costly due to the data storage cost and the amount of staff time required (man- hours) to manage the data. It is these needless man-hours being used to determine which data needs to be saved long term in an attempt to control long-term data storage costs.

In these areas, ever-increasing amounts of hardcopy documents and data are being generated which are not just hardcopy documents but which also include elements such as sound, graphics, video, animation, simulation etc. or combine several of these elements. Typically (as well as to meet legal requirements) this needs to be transferred to digital archive systems and permanently preserved. It is for this hardcopy documents and data that Cinema Printing Company London as a true migration free preservation solution that will play a leading role in this service.

The Future of long-term data storage indicates the additional challenges and the cost related to migration is to see how 10 TB of data today grows to the astronomic amount of more than 168,000 TB within a 25 year period based on a 50% yearly growth.
